Beyond Mulberry Glen Quotes!

Beyond Mulberry Glen by Millie Florence (another homeschool graduate!) was like a warm chocolate chip cookie to me. Rain drizzled outside, clouds dimmed the sky, I was sick and my head felt head stuffy and congested, but it was the perfect day to get lost in the pages of a book. And I had the perfect book to get lost in. I picked up Beyond Mulberry Glen, curled up in bed and began to read...

"It was a warm-milk-with-cinnamon, lost-in-a-book sort of day."

-Beyond Mulberry Glen

I discovered a delightful adventure about a young girl (eleven-year-old Lydia Green) setting out into a magical forest to save her friends and stop the Darkness. The story strolled along slowly and the theme trilled gently. The world-building was rich and whimsical.

When I set the book down, I felt warm and cozy inside; like I had just had a cup of chamomile tea.

In this post, I want to share some of the gems I collected along the way. So without further ado here they are.

"To worry constantly about danger and evil is danger and evil in itself, though we must be mindful of it "

-Beyond Mulberry Glen

(Do you ever feel like danger and evil can be thwarted by worrying…? I’m afraid I am quite guilty of this)

"She was stubbornly gentle. Stubbornly kind. Relentlessly compassionate."

-Beyond Mulberry Glen

"Perhaps she was stubborn, because she was going to keep trying. She had to. No matter how she felt, she was not going to give up."

-Beyond Mulberry Glen

(I want this kind of stubbornness!)

"All the things of the world cannot fill an empty heart," Lydia whispered aloud. "But this light is not of this world."

-Beyond Mulberry Glen

(There are themes of light and darkness that hint at deeper things throughout the story and this quote brought a specific truth to my mind. John 8:12)

"Her childhood would not leave, Lydia realized, in a moment or at the snap of one's fingers. Growing up came gradually, softly, like a new friend, a patient mentor, waiting for you to become acquainted with it first."

-Beyond Mulberry Glen

(This one especially touched me. Like Lydia in the story, I wanted my childhood to stay and I disliked(dislike) change. Do you ever feel that way? But for all my fears, growing up has been gentle and gradual. It has been like a new friend. Reading this quote more than anything made me grateful for the softness and for God's faithfulness throughout these "growing up" years)

There you have it!

If you are in the mood for a fantasy adventure that isn't as action-packed but is still filled with wonder and fun characters I believe you would enjoy Beyond Mulberry Glen. Especially on a rainy day.
